Agri-tourism
Deborah Giraud, Farm and Community Development Advisor for Humboldt and Del Norte County Cooperative Extension, has been working with landowners and agriculture industries to help them gain new sources of revenue through development of Ag, Nature and Heritage tourism possibilities. Ag, Nature, and Heritage tourism is a rapidly growing industry and can be approached in a variety of ways from one-time events to continuing services or activities on your farm or ranch. With the help from a grant from the Headwaters Fund, Deborah is working with the Humboldt County Convention and Visitors Bureau to produce an agritourism map and website where visitors can learn more about what is available in our region. A workshop with Darren Schmall, the pizza farmer, as keynote speaker was held in April and attended by 25 farmers. A hands-on tour of several operations in Loleta was also held. More events are planned, please contact us if you are interested.
Are you interested in Ag Tourism? A group of farmers and ranchers are exploring ways to start ag tourism opportunities. Please call or email Deborah Giraud at 707-445-7351 and let her know your interests. We have a book and other resources here at the office.
