2009 4-H SET Expo Competition Winners
The competition challenged teams of three from two grade levels: 3rd-8th grade and 9th-12th to compete in four areas of science, engineering, and technology for a grand prize of $250 to their organization or a non-profit of choice. The elementary team winners were students from Julie Johansen’s 4th/5th grade class at Hydesville Elementary School who will use the money to purchase Science equipment and supplies for their classroom. The high school team winners are from Scott Katzdorrn’s Bridgeville 4-H Welding group. They will use their funds to purchase equipment and materials for their 4-H project.

4-H Celebrates Earth Day!
4-H celebrated Earth Day by planting trees at Redwood Acres in conjunction with the Science, Engineering, and Technology Expo (SET Expo) on April 25 at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds. Four trees were planted along the fence line by the entrance to Redwood Acres. Two liquid amber trees, and two maple trees were planted. The fall colors from these trees will bring beauty to everyone who passes by the fairgrounds. The UCCE plant advisor, Deborah Giraud, taught the proper science of planting trees. Roots & Shoots, and the Eureka Garden Club joined with 4-H and the community members at the event to participate in this service to our community.   Through celebrating Earth Day and supporting our nation’s “Green” initiative we were also able to give back to one of our great supporters, Redwood Acres Fair.
