In 4-H, there are many ways to connect to your community and take on important leadership roles. Below are a few ways to get involved with leadership development.
Event Chairs: The chairperson of each 4-H Event will be determined by Event Committee members and is responsible for overseeing that particular 4-H Event.
Emerald and All Star: These programs are designed to help youth learn about project planning, organization and presentation.
Club Officers: Club officers manage the planning and implementation of the club’s programs and business. They serve as a guardian of the club’s legal, financial, social, and educational responsibilities. Officers are responsible for ensuring that the club is inclusive and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, or disability.
Junior/Teen Leader: The 4-H Junior and Teen Leadership experience is designed to provide members with the opportunity to learn about the qualities and competencies needed to be a leader. Junior Leaders provide assistance while Teen Leaders assume more challenging leadership roles. Junior and Teen Leaders may assist with specific projects or with other 4-H activities or events.
County Council Officers: County Council is open to 4-H youth in Humboldt County and meets throughout the year between August and May. County Council gives youth a chance to meet new friends, share ideas, learn, develop leadership skills and have fun!
Statewide 4-H Committees: The Statewide 4-H Youth Development Program (YDP) Advisory Committees are comprised of a representative group of 4-H members, adult volunteers, county and state 4-H YDP staff. Statewide 4-H YDP Committees offer insight, review and input for the operation and management of the Statewide 4-H YDP to the State 4-H YDP Director. Applications are due to the State 4-H YDP Office postmarked by May 31, 2009. For more information go to http://www.ca4h.org/council/advisory.asp
